"I'm tired, Lord, but because You asked me to, I will."
Luke 5:1-6

Boy, can I relate to those words! Mercy! So much to do, so few hours in a day, all I want to do is fall into bed and sleep . . . then there is a call, a knock on the door (an email - urgent prayer request) . . . I cry out "I'm tired, Lord, but because You asked me to, I will." Okay, that is not exactly how Simon answered the Lord, but it is my translation . . . here, let's read it together so you know I'm not totally off the wall here - Jesus has finished speaking to the crowds, and turning to Simon He said (starting at verse 4) "Put out into deep water and let down the nets, for a catch." Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets." Ah, but here is the beauty of his obedience to doing what the Lord asked of him (even though he was tired, drained, ready to 'call it a day') - verse 6 - "When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break."

Oh, dear ones - when you don't have it in you to do any more, when you are close to just quitting, and you hear the prompting of His voice asking you to do this one more thing . . . the blessing He pours out is almost more than we can ever imagine! We serve an AWESOME God! He does not give us more than we can bear. He empowers us to do the tasks which He has called us to do. Then, He pours out His love, grace, peace, strength, mercy and joy unspeakable and full of glory right into our weariness! So, next time you hear His prompting, but want to close an ear to it, remember this passage and the blessing in store for a listening ear and an obedient heart!
