to John's page . . .

This came in the mail to us here at Ministry Through Music, and with permission, we are sharing this encouraging story with you:

Our son John was eight months old when he came to live with us on December 7, 1990 a day that will live (for us) in infamy. He is adopted and the joy of our small family. John has Cerebral Palsy, a heart anomaly, and seizures. He is almost ten years old and we just can't imagine what our lives would be like if he wasn't part of our little family. We had some idea of John's "special needs" before we made the decision to adopt him. We always felt that the Lord was leading us down this path and even though it felt like the scariest thing I'd ever done in my life we agreed to adopt John.

John goes to a private school for special needs children. He loves school and has many friends there. He is learning to read and he loves to get homework! He uses a wheelchair to get around but when he is home he prefers to crawl around and play on the floor. He really likes to pretend he is a bull rider in a rodeo, something his dad and I didn't know a thing about until John became interested.

We are so thankful that God gave us this precious gift, and that John's birthmother chose to deliver him rather than abort him. We have learned so much through John. I have never been a patient person, but I see my son and how he patiently waits for some other child to give him a turn on a toy, or how he will repeat what he is saying numerous times until the person listening understands him, which sometimes doesn't happen. John always wants to share whatever he has and he does it with such joy. He just delights in giving what he has.

Taking care of John is a lot of work. He is dependent on us for almost everthing. Physically, it can take a toll on his dad and me, but for all the work and the times when, at the end of the day my back is aching, I am still grateful to God for our precious son.
