Top section:
- 1. Solomon
- 2. Jabez
- 3. Jesus, in the garden
- 4. He got down on his knees to pray, three times, daily
- 5. Jonah
- 6. Hannah
- 1. Jesus
- His particular need was one of strength and comfort
- His request was that the Father allow the pain and suffering He was about to go through, to pass from Him
- Although that was His desire, He truly wanted the Father's will to be done
- 2. Hannah
- She deeply desired a child
- She loved Him and served Him with her whole heart
- She kept her word, giving the child back to the Lord for all his life
- 3. Daniel
- He was taken before the king, questioned about his "disobedience" to the decree posted that no one pray to any one other than the king. He was put into the lion's den - to be put to death. He was disobedient to the eartly decree, yet remained steadfast and faithful to God's Word and his relationship with Him.
- His response was to continue to trust in the Lord his God and the Lord rewarded his faithfulness by delivering him out of the lion's den, unharmed.
- 4. Jonah
- HELP
- His own stubborness and trying to run away from what the Lord had asked him to do
- Total repentance
- The Lord rescued him by having the fish "spit him out on shore"
- 5. Solomon
- The Lord approached Solomon, in a dream, telling him he could "ask for whatever you want me to give you". Solomon asked for wisdom and discernment above all else.
- The Lord was pleased
- He honored Solomon's request, and added many blessings besides.
- Yes, I (the author of these studies) fully believe that it was real, even though in a "dream", because his life showed the results of that prayer.
- 6. Jabez
- The unusual way in which this prayer is brought to our attention is that it is right smack dab in the middle of a long list of family history. There is name after name after name and then a little break with this prayer!
- He also asked that the Lord would bless him, and for God's hand would be upon his life, that he would be kept safe, and free from pain
- He granted his request

Lesson 8:
1. (1 Peter 3:7) Not having proper respect for your husband/wife. Fighting against God's design within our marriages.
(Mark 12:40) Prayers that are not sincere - a false "pretense", to be noticed only
(Isaiah 1:15) "Blood on our hands." (or in other words, living lives unacceptable to the Lord, full of sin, yet continuing to go before Him as if you have been serving Him with love and in purity!)
2. (answers will vary, depending upon who is answering them - these are only some examples) I need to be sure that I am in right standing with God and in my marriage relationship. I need to be sure that I am not living a lie! I need to pray from my heart, and not to be noticed, if I feel others are paying too much attention to my prayers, then, perhaps I need to pray silently, and check my heart motive.
3. Jonah & Elijah both were praying for the Lord to take their lives (kind of in a pity party mode), that was not praying in accordance with God's will!
4. Daniel did not receive his answer for quite a while due to spiritual warfare in the heavenlies.
5. It means to me that I need to carefully weigh my unanswered prayers . . . do they line up with God's will & His Word? If not, then I need to repent and get right, if they do, I can rest assured that God has heard, and that the answer will come.
6. If I won't listen to God's Word (the law), then why should I expect Him to listen to me? - that is SIN in my life -
7. Plain and simple, wrong motivation in my heart . . . I "want", I "feel" instead of what is based upon God's Word, and praying in accordance with that.
8. The way I live my life! If I am unfaithful to God in my day to day living, that is "a spirit of prostitution" in my heart! That means that I am not acknowledging Him in my life . . . then, how can I expect Him to answer any prayer, but that of repentance?
